PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST.
Cassettes of tissue are processed overnight for optimal histologic sections,
which are necessary for accurate diagnoses.
SPECIMEN REQUIRED.
All human tissue excised at surgery, outpatient clinics, and postmortems,
fresh or in fixative, along with a filled-out
Tissue Examination Form
(U. S. Standard Form 515, USSF515).
REAGENTS, INSTRUMENTATION.
Tissue-Tek® VIP® 5 Vacuum Infiltration Processor.
STEP-BY-STEP DESCRIPTION.
1. The Sakura Tissue-Tek® VIP® 5 Vacuum Infiltration
Processor is located near the surgical pathology cutting station
in the Histology Laboratory, 4D-124.
2. You should load the tissue cassettes into the CASSETTE BASKET,
and place the basket into the RETORT underneath the CONTROL PANEL.
3. Firmly seal the RETORT by pressing down the RETORT LID.
4. Press down the HANDLE.
5. Move the LOCK BAR all the way from LEFT TO RIGHT.
6. Normal Operation.
6.1. Ordinarily, the histotechnologists will have set up the LEFT MONITOR
to show the TISSUE PROCESSING SCREEN (TISSUE PROCESSING appears
on the top of the LEFT MONITOR).
6.2. Press IMMEDIATE START on the RIGHT MENU.
6.3. As late as 6:30 PM, you may press DELAYED START.
7. Troubleshooting.
7.1. Back up to the HOME PAGE by repeatedly pressing EXIT
on the RIGHT MENU.
7.2. The password is: ...........
7.3. Select TISSUE PROCESSING on the RIGHT MENU.
7.4. On Monday through Thursday, select ROUTINE PROCESSING
on the LEFT MONITOR, then press ENTER.
7.5. On Friday, select TWO DAY DELAY on the LEFT MONITOR,
then press ENTER.
7.6. On the RIGHT MENU, press IMMEDIATE START.
7.7. If the TISSUE PROCESSING selection is not available,
then read the ERROR MESSAGE underneath the LEFT MONITOR.
7.8. Respond to the ERROR MESSAGE if it makes sense to you.
7.9. In case of a malfunction, the
ANATOMIC PATHOLOGIST ON-CALL
should be contacted.
7.10. For Technical Support, call 1-800-543-8496, available
until 9 PM E.S.T. (i.e., 6 PM, Pacific Time).
