PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST.

      Principles and procedures for quality control for histology staining procedures.



SPECIMEN REQUIRED.

      All human tissue excised at surgery, outpatient clinics, and postmortems, fresh or in fixative, along with a filled-out Tissue Examination Form (U. S. Standard Form 515, USSF515).



REAGENTS, INSTRUMENTATION.


      Distilled water. 10% Neutral buffered formalin. Paraffin sections at 6 microns. Absolute ethanol. Hematoxylin and Eosin Stain. Control slides for each special stain.



STEP-BY-STEP DESCRIPTION.


      1. Hematoxylin and Eosin Stain: One (1) slide from each tray of slides is evaluated microscopically after each stain.

      2. Special Stains: There are control slides for each special stain. The expected staining results are listed after each procedure, and the finished control slides are evaluated in relation to these expected results.
