REAGENTS, INSTRUMENTATION.

§ RPMI fixative.
§ Labeled, sealed specimen container, containing fresh tissue.
§ (U. S. Standard Form 515, USSF515).

STEP-BY-STEP DESCRIPTION.

1. Cases sent for flow cytometry should be received by the laboratory fresh, in a container labeled with the patient's identification information and the tissue site.

2. Add equal amounts of RPMI medium to the tissue. RPMI is located in the refrigerator located within the histology laboratory.

3. The specimen and the requisition form should be taken to chemistry for accessioning as a send out test to be sent to Quest laboratories.

4. Although specimens can be held for up to three days in RPMI, the quicker the specimen is sent, the greater chance of retaining viability within cells for flow cytometric analysis.

5. Accessioning should preferably be performed by the CHEMISTRY LABORATORY SUPERVISOR or by the CHEMISTRY DIRECTOR. Additionally, accessioning can be performed by the ordering clinician.

6. The ordering within CPRS is as follows: The test-name should be ordered as MISCELLANEOUS TEST. The collection sample should be indicated as BIOPSY.. The specimen type should be indicated as the specific site or location. The order comment should be indicated as 5048X, LYMPHOMA FLOW.

7. Results will be placed in CPRS by the chemistry laboratory staff once a report is received from the reference laboratory.
