PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST.
Occasional power outages require preparation
by the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory.
STEP-BY-STEP DESCRIPTION.
1.
Occasional power outages, both scheduled and unscheduled, require
preparation in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory.
2.
In any emergency, the Anatomic Pathology Laboratory has responsibility
for the following activities:
2.1. Receiving and processing
frozen sections from the Operating Room suite.
2.2. Looking up pathology records (surgical pathology
and cytopathology) for signed-out cases.
2.3. Logging in new biopsies, in case the outage is lengthy.
3.
If the power-outage is scheduled, then the on-call attending pathologist
should inform the surgeons in the operating room that frozen-sections
might possibly be delayed.
4.
Collect a log of all the surgical pathology and cytopathology cases
for off-line searching. Sign on to VistA®
5.
To capture the logs onto your local workstation hard-drive:
Click on TOOLS (toolbar, top middle of screen).
Enter File Name: surg2005.txt
Click on START CAPTURE.
6.
YOU MUST CHANGE THE SCREEN-LINE-WIDTH to 132 characters,
since the surgical pathology and cytopathology logbooks
require 132 columns
(80 columns is the default width for VistA®).
Otherwise, the resulting screen output will have annoying
line-wrap characters, that makes it unsuitable
for text searching and display.
Click on PROPERTIES (toolbar, top middle of screen).
Click on EMULATION (top of menu).
Click on DISPLAY (upper left corner).
Change NUMBER OF COLUMNS to 132. Click on OK.
Set ENABLE HISTORY to OFF.
